Yvonne Piet Interior Design

I think that I am greatly influenced by my travels, and by my Dutch roots. Although I am able to adapt to any desired style, there is a dutch word that describes my personal taste for interiors which is “Stoer”.

About Yvonne

I was born in the Netherlands, to a Dutch mum and a British dad. My father’s job had us move to various countries such as France, Iraq and the United Kingdom and even at a very young age I was intrigued by different cultures, languages and people groups and I found it very easy to immerse myself into any environment and to adapt quickly.

I believe this was the root of my passion and ability to explore with unexpected colour schemes, marrying different textures and materials and ignoring the boundaries of specific styles to create an interesting yet subtle and homely interior.

“Stoer?”

“Stoer”: robust sturdy burly resistant rugged solid strong tough dapper, daring”.

It is the opposite to dainty, pretty or perfect. It is a mix of oversized furniture, use of greys and blacks which makes other colours and organic woods and e.g. cognac colour leather stand out.

It is chunky textures such as rattan and kubu cane and imperfect surfaces such as brick, cement floors, organic woods, oversized artwork and chunky pendent lights.

101 Meade Street

I love that Ben and Jeremy dared to use black for the walls and even ceilings which when paired with the beautiful organic wood, steel, cognac colour leather and teal colour fabric and wall tiles have created the cosy and inviting feel of the restaurant.

Pinnacle Point

I would describe the theme of this home as “simply gorgeous”. It seemed pointless and unnecessary to compete for attention with such stunning views, so we kept the rooms subtle focusing on an interesting mix of materials and textures rather than colour and pattern.
